CISCO ATA 186

Of course, nothing’s perfect. The problems here are relatively small but stem from Cisco’s averseness to anything other than OEM business.

Examples. The box has firmware and like all such boxes the firmware is updated from time to time. Unlike most boxes it is NOT available on Cisco’s web site unless you are a corporate customer. They assume that a VoIP service provider will have the latest ‘image file’ as it is known. Similarly facilities built into the box for automatic update do not work from Cisco’s site, but only from the service provider. The same goes for configuration details.

Configuration is by a web interface. You surf to [your LAN IP]/dev, put in your password, and are greeted with about 75 fields which can be changed. (The number varies a little with firmware revision) Most have default values and your service provider will give you the rest. The configuration can be entered from a touch tone phone, but the procedure is painfully arcane and longwinded.

The manual can be found here. A simplified configuration guide from IconnectHere can be found here.
